Basse Danse

The Basse dance (literally "low dance") is a sedate dance in which partners move quietly and gracefully in a slow gliding or walking motion without leaving the floor. The music is in either (or a combination of) 6/4 and 3/2 time. It is contemporary with the Tordion, and often paired with it for contrast. The combination of Basse Dance and Tordion developed into the Pavane and Galliard.
